Highlights of the Event

1. Nighttime Cloud Show & Projection Mapping

Starting at 19:20, visitors can enjoy the nightly spectacle where clouds appear over the castle, paired with dynamic projection mapping and surround sound, creating a breathtaking, fairy-tale-like atmosphere. This premium experience is ticketed, and visitors are advised to check the official website for detailed information.

2. Daytime Cloud Viewing

During the day, the sea of clouds will be visible at scheduled times from 10:00  to 18:00 PM, allowing visitors to enjoy the misty landscape for free (castle admission applies separately). The daytime cloud display offers a more relaxed opportunity to admire the castle’s majestic silhouette shrouded in mist.

3. Special Weekend Events & Expo

Coinciding with the start of the sea of clouds display, the Castle EXPO in Matsue 2025 will be held at Kunibiki Messe on June 28-29. The expo features expert lectures and exhibitions about Matsue Castle’s history, further immersing visitors in the region’s rich cultural heritage. After exploring the expo, visitors can indulge in the mystical cloudscape at the castle’s main grounds, where the two events come together to create a festival of history and myth.

Ikeuchi’s expertise in mist and fog technology, developed over years of working with temples, shrines, and castles across Japan, has culminated in this monumental project. Previous installations include mist systems at Kyoto’s Ninna-ji Temple and Kumamoto Castle. At Matsue Castle, their proprietary mist generation technology has been meticulously calibrated to produce a realistic, large-scale sea of clouds—dominating the castle’s silhouette and creating an immersive environment that transports visitors into a legendary world.
